South by plane and then a road trip..................

We are leaving on Sunday morning the 18th January by air for New Orleans where we will spend a few days in the company of some folks from QUEST on a Road Scholar organized vacation. The schedule for this time in New Orleans includes talks, lectures and organized tours but it will, I am sure, also involve some serious eating on our part, either with or without the group.

After the end of the stay in New Orleans including a trip on a river boat and a brunch on Saturday 24th. we are renting a car and driving north to New York City.

MAC is planning the route and so far it includes:

Wending our way northward along the banks of the Mississippi, perhaps visiting some of the ante-bellum mansions.
Oxford, Mississippi
Memphis, Tennessee - staying at the Peabody Hotel with the ducks
Nashville, Tennessee
Asheville, North Carolina - Biltmore Mansion.
Charlottesville, Virginia - to visit our friend Judy Lung.
Salem, Virginia (to eat at Mac & Bob's restaurant!!)
Then maybe Washington D.C. and/or Gettysburg, PA and/or Lancaster, PA.
...and home to New York and our lonely cats.

We have more than enough things to do and see on the way home including trying to work out who really did win the American Civil War.

This will be new territory for both of us and just about enough time to get fed up with 'Y'all' and 'Yes Ma'am' and all those wonderful 'southernisms'. I also guess we will have to get used to moving, talking and acting at a slower pace.

Either a week or so in the car together will result in homicide or a memorable trip...let's go for the latter.
